Holders of International Driving Licence must approach South African Department of Home Affairs for converting the same into South African Driving Licence.
2. Consulate, however, provides an Interpretation Letter for Indian Driving Licence which is normally accepted by the local authorities and most of Indians working in South Africa have obtained such a letter in this regard from the Consulate which allows them to drive in the country. The letter issued by the Consulate will be valid till the validity of the Driving Licence.
The application has to submit the following documents/fee:

  • Self-attested copy of passport (first page and last page):
  • Self-attested copy of visa/work permit:
  • Form is same as application for Misc Services on Indian passport (a link of new form to be provided) or will be provided at the Counter of the Consulate.
  • Self-attested copy of valid driver’s license issued from India.
  • Original Driving Licence is required for physical verification which would be returned immediately. The applicants are requested to bring their Indian passport along with VISA/SA-ID/Permanent residence in original.
  • Proof of Residential address in South Africa.
  • Any other document as specified by the Consular Officer:
