About Us Child Birth Registration

i) An online application has to be made. The website is www.indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in. When you will click this website you will be taken to Ministry of Home Affairs (Foreigners Division) website. The applicant will find a heading titled “Apply Online”, (in the middle of the web page), Click it. You get several options. Then opt for the last option titled “Registration of birth of a minor child at an Indian Consulate under section 4(1) of the citizenship act, 1955 “ fill the form and upload photo and signatures as per instructions. Form 1 is the correct form.
ii) Print hard copies (in duplicate) of the online application from, duly filled, and submit the same as per instructions given at the Consulate at the given below address. Please note that all copies of the documents including forms should be self attested by both the parents;
iii) Please note that your present address means your current local address in South Africa.
iv) a self-attested copy of parents passports (first two pages and last two pages); and self attested copy of visa/work permit of both the parent;
v) a self attested copy of birth certificate issued by South African Home Department and also hospital if born in South Africa;

vii) Proof of Residential address in South Africa;
viii) Self attested copy of marriage certificate duly stamped and signed by the competent issuing authority of the marriage certificate. Please note that marriage certificate in the form of Notary Public will not be accepted. Names of spouses should be mentioned on each other's passport as the same is mandatory after getting married. In case, the same is not there, please let us know so that we could guide you on the subject ;
ix) An undertaking from both the parents, duly signed, that child has not taken South African/foreign nationality is to be enclosed. There is a column in the form Part II (column 9, 10 and 11) where both the parents have to sign and write their names below their signatures;
x) Original passport/documents will be returned immediately after verification. Consulate will not be responsible for safe custody of original documents;
xi) Any other document as specified by the Consular Officer;
xii) It takes one week to deliver this service. However, if the child registration is done after a year of birth, it may take upto 30 working  days.
