How to Apply for Fresh / Reissue / Exhaust Pages / Damaged / Minor Passports

General Information

Normally, an ordinary passport is valid for ten years from the date of issue. Minors are issued passports for five years or until they attain the age of 18 years, whichever is earlier. Minors above 15 years of age may apply for reissue of a 10-year passport. However, the passport issuing authority may issue passports for a shorter duration under specific conditions.

How to Apply

Applications for Passport or Passport-related services, including Emergency Certificate (EC), must be filled online through the Global Passport Seva Portal (GPSP): https://mportal.passportindia.gov.in/mission/

  • Any change in laminated pages requires a fresh passport booklet.

  • Married applicants must include spouse name; Marriage Certificate is mandatory.

  • Name change requires:

    • Newspaper clippings (one in South Africa and one in India), OR

    • Name Change Gazette Notification.

  • Addition of spouse name requires Marriage Certificate and Joint Photo Declaration.

  • Deletion of spouse name requires Divorce Decree.

  • Change of spouse name requires Divorce Decree / Death Certificate / Re-marriage Certificate.

Re-Issuance of Passport (Expiry)

  • Applicants may apply within three years before expiry.

  • Self-attested copies of first & last two passport pages.

  • Copy of visa/work permit/permanent residence.

  • Indian address (Police Verification) + South Africa address proof.

  • Three passport-size photos (5cm x 5cm, white background).

Re-Issuance (Pages Exhausted)

  • Online application form via Passport Seva Portal.

  • Passport page copies.

  • Visa/work permit copy.

  • Residential address proof in South Africa.

Re-Issuance (Damaged Passport)

  • Affidavit explaining damage (Annexure L).

  • Passport copies.

  • Residential proof in South Africa.

Lost / Stolen Passport

  • Police Report.

  • Affidavit (Annexure L).

  • Employer Letter.

  • Residential Proof.

Passport for Minor Child Born in South Africa

  • Passport valid for 5 years or until age 18.

  • Application signed by both parents.

  • Parents? passport copies.

  • Birth Certificate (South Africa Home Department).

Emergency Certificate (EC)

  • EC is for one-way travel to India only.

  • Police Report required for lost passport.

  • Fee: Rand 315 (including ICWF).

  • Processing Time: 3 Days.
